Observing Spysats

US spy satellite photo by John Locker
Photo via GalaxyPix.com
An image of a US reconnaissance spacecraft that will soon make an unscheduled
return to earth. The image was made with an amateur telescope by John Locker,
a spacecraft observation enthusiast.

Amateur satellite observation has been spotlighted here before for the amazing photos made by backyard astronomers of Space Shuttles, the International Space Station and other orbiting spacecraft. The hobby has rcently attracted major press attention due to the successful imaging by amateur observers of a US spysat that is expected to make an uncontrolled reentry into the earth's atmosphere within a few months. See the following articles about the tracking and imaging of the satellite by dedicated amateur observers:

Lunar Resources for You and Me

Dennis Wingo discusses lunar resources and the possibilities for using them to benefit people on earth and
for space applications. See also his book Moonrush: Improving Life on Earth with the Moon's Resources
and hear a recent interview with him on The Space Show.
