Google
Earth and Google
Maps allows everyone to become their own observation
satellite and to explore the world from space.
Google also provides various tools that allow
outside users to build customized displays and
so-called mashups.
For example, Matt
Wronkiewicz create the following Your
Planet Today display that combines a Google
world map with images from the NASA Aqua
and Terra
remote sensing satellites:
(The display is a Google
Gadget that you can easily add to your own
webpages.)
Hey,
what's that? displays an elevation panorama
as seen from a given location. Their Planisphere
tool offers a view of the night sky as seen from
a given location.
Michael Belfiore's book Rocketeers
provides a great introduction to the NewSpace
industry and community. It also offers a snapshot
of a selection of entrepreneurial rocket companies
as they attempt to build rocket vehicles for low
cost access to space. The above video, created
by Mark Greene of Pecos
Pictures, gives a great intro to the book
and a taste of NewSpace excitement.
